An Open Letter

I have a suggestion for any budding restaurateurs or someone looking to go into the fast food arena. Just because it is called fast food doesn't mean it has to be fried, on a bun, or made up entirely of 50 billion fat particles held together by salt and artificial sweeteners. Seriously. Taco Bell, I appreciate you thinking outside the bun but your food is still not exactly nutritious.

This has become a serious bone of contention for me over the past few days. I am trying to eat healthier. I promise. But I am also in charge of picking up the baby from daycare and caring for him all evening once we get home. This is the same child who reacts to his car seat at the end of the day like an animal hit by a tranquilizer dart. I cannot be expected to drag his dead weight with his little head lolling around into a healthy eating place because you refuse to put in a drive thru. On my way home I pass a Sonic, Jack in the Box, Chicken Express, Taco Something or Other, Wendys, McDonalds and Whataburger. Yes, I know McDonalds and many other fast food places carry salads. I am not impressed. I expect better.

Yes, I do know where the grocery store is. Please refer back to my sentence about the 22lb of dead weight. Its practically child cruelty to have to drag him into the grocery store. I am not asking for much. Just a place that serves good healthy salads, soups or nice deli sandwiches with a drive thru. My favorite place on the way home does a half avocado with chicken salad and a cup of soup or a side of fruit (real mixed fruit with kiwi and strawberries not mandarin oranges from a can). But alas, they have no drive thru. Please help a girl out.

**P.S. I could use a drive thru Starbucks too please, KTHX.

It's impossible where i live to find healthy foods and salads- they need a health food drive through though, wouldn't that be great? My favorite place to eat out is Panera bread- healthy!- but none around me :(

Some of the Subway restaurants in our area have drive thru windows. Two of them don't allow custom sandwiches (you have to choose from standard menu items) and the wait time is slightly more than a McDonalds or Jack in the Box. The third Subway allows you to order whatever you'd like, but it also has the longest wait time. Starbucks also has several drive thrus in my area. You can do a search on the Starbucks website for those that have drive thrus!

It's SO true. It pisses me off royally that Panera Bread doesn't have a drive-through. It's because they're pretentious bastards and they don't want to be seen as "fast food" even if that's what they are. (*&#$*(& jerks!

Same thing where I live, McDonald's, Sonic, Wendy's, Taco Bell. The closet thing to healthy is a Subway, but of course they have no drive thru. I don't blame you for not wanting to drag your kid through a grocery store at the end of the day. Could there be any worse torture?

The sonic salads are pretty damn decent. I love Wendy's grilled chicken and baked potato as well.

one of the chili's by my work delivers to your car door. wonder if other places might do that as well if you asked?! because, the child-dragging is not fun!

I really wish they would make more healthy fast food. By the way, I just discovered that they added a drive thru onto the Starbucks near me. I'm definitely excited! If Panera Bread had a drive thru, I would be in all my glory.

I just came across your blog and I agree whole heartedly with this statement. If you ever find one of these restaurants let me know! I hate dragging a cranky, whiny three year old anywhere. But drive thrus are the enemy now with the burgers and fried food!

A lot of the slow "fast-food" restaurants like Chilis, Outback Steakhouse and Applebees do curbside call-in. I used to work all over the US and grab takeout on my way back to the hotel. Check out the restaurants in your area. You might be surprised.

More Drive- Thrus!!!!!
It's probably only healthy compared to the rest of the junk they sell, but Burger King has veggie burgers that are pretty yummy. And can be eaten while driving.
