We took advantage of the beautiful weather today and went to the local airport for the flying lesson I bought my husband for Valentine's Day. Admittedly it was a Discovery Flight not necessarily a flying lesson but the guy taught it as if we were seriously pursuing a pilots license. It was fun. He started with a 30 minute overview of the plane and controls. Then we went outside and did a pre-flight check of the plane.
After verifying everything was operational we climbed in. He set my husband up with headphones and put him in the pilot's seat.
He let my husband do a little driving on the tarmac then the flight instructor handled takeoff. Once we were at 2500 feet we leveled off and my husband took over control. We made several loops around town. It was fun trying to figure out what everything was.
It was really fun. I highly recommend it. My husband said it was even better than he expected.

Oh wow! I still think that's such a great gift. Looks like a good time. My hubby travels constantly on a plane for work, so it's not a gift he would enjoy, but I love the creativity.
Flying is the best, isn't it?
That is awesome!!! I'm going to have to look something like that up when we move back to Texas. I would love it and JP has recently become a nervous flyer and I think being "in control" might help.
Very creative, very memorable idea! I just got JP lingerie (for me ;)
There is an airport near us and I have always wanted to do the introductory flight. Maybe this post will inspire me!
How absolutely cool is that!! I am impressed, how did you come up with the idea? Is he interested in flying! What a cool idea, thanks for sharing.
what fun! did you fly over me?!!
Oh I'm so glad you posted photos! That was such a great gift!
That looks awesome! Those small planes are a lot more fun than you'd think they would be. Good for you!
That is a wonderful gift! ... though I;d be scared to death!
Hubby's boss has a private plane they use for business... the boss does the flying himself. ugh .. nerve wracking! When my hubby has to fly that way, I go insane trying to reorganize and clean until I hear he has landed and is safe.
In their defense, it is a twin-turbo prop plane ... which has a good track record (knock on wood)... and the boss has been flying for several decades now.
.. but still.
